We would like to express our sincere appreciation for the successful conclusion of the International Eelgrass and Blue Carbon Workshop 2023 (Amamo2023) held on November 17-18, 2023, at the Sasakawa Peace Foundation International Conference Hall in Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan.

Over the course of the three-day event, a total of approximately 500 people attended on-site, and a total of 1,900 online participants viewed the Japanese site and 500 viewed the international site. After some editing, we will prepare archived videos for your viewing.

A summary of the three days of keynote speeches and sessions is given below. In short, from a broad perspective, ideas, practical examples, and future directions for the conservation and restoration of blue carbon ecosystems were presented and discussed.

As a result of this workshop, Amamo2023 Declaration is formulated. The Declaration was compiled by the Executive Committee based on discussions at the venue on November 19 and feedback received by December 15. The Declaration is an urgent action guideline for the conservation and restoration of eelgrass beds and blue carbon ecosystems over the next 5 to 10 years, and is supported by all participants of the workshop.
